Here’s the next interview with the contributors to my new book An Illustrated Journey: Inspiration From the Private Art Journals of Traveling Artists, Illustrators and Designers
Chris Buchholz has been on a wild adventure over the past few years, giving up his life as a designer in Pennsylvania to move to the Dominican Republic and take up missionary work. A dramatic life change that results in a lot of gorgeous sketchbook pages.
He’s back in the States now and he chatted with me about life and art.
Chris shares a lot more in my book. Here’s an excerpt:
“For me, my sketchbook is the ultimate passport. When I’m traveling with my sketchbook in hand I seem to slide easily into cultures and conversations. When I’m drawing, the locals seem to let me into their world, accepting me as if I were one of them. This self-issued passport, the sketchbook, is what gets me into the “heart” of the place; into the dining rooms, front porches, hidden alleys, and into the most fascinating conversations..…” (continued)
Please don’t forget to check out Chris’s flickr feed.
Love his use of colour. The laundry line theme looks fabulous. Wonderful work

THANKS DANNY!
I have admired Chris’s art for quite some time but until now hadn’t found much in the way of personal information on him–so here is our chance to finally “meet’ him! To me, his work resembles your own in many ways or vice versa. His comments interest me too–such as, why people try to capture a moment using photography or art (Flckr: Disney 2013–#69). Yes, I agree with you on his exceptional light portrayals. This is mentioned on at least one page (Flckr: Valley Sketch Book: PSC 0205), These interviews are such a great idea!!
All the best,
Lynne

Another great interview! I love, Chris, that you have themes for your sketchbooks. And, your big sketchbook is going to be priceless when it’s filled and, educational, I’m sure. Keep up the great work. And, thanks again for sharing.
