According to this article, recent studies show that expressing gratitude is good for you and can make you crave sweets. So here goes.
I’m grateful:
- that I’m not a turkey or a yam.
- for The Knick and Karl Ove Knaussgard.
- that the skies are blue and it’s supposed to reach 60˚ today.
- for my girlfriend who is smart and lovely.
- for my son who is creative and hairy.
- for my family who are healthy and only mildly annoying.
- for my Pentel brush pen which has gone from a cantankerous stranger to a deep collaborator who has freed me up and shown me some inner grace.
- for my partner and my colleagues at Sketchbook Skool
- for my friends, analog and virtual.
- for Joe and, usually, Tim.
- for the last two weeks in Eastern Europe.
- for 2016 which promises to be amazing
- that I overcame my obstinacy on a flight last week and finally watched The End Of the Tour
- for finishing the last tweaks and revisions to my favorite book so far.
- for gouache.
- for this blog and all who read it.
- for licorice allsorts, Mars Bars, pecan pie, and Big Gay Ice Cream.

My food is ready, my house is clean, ( unusual as I don’t clean, I draw, as you well know!), the world feels momentarily peaceful, ( perhaps because we have football on the TV and not the NEWS), my brother’s coming over and he’ll probably play cards with me AND let me draw him, and he’s bringing pie, the house smells good ( I just roasted almonds and didn’t burn them this time) , my kids and grandkids are together in another state so I’ll enjoy knowing that and appreciate the quiet, yes, there is much to be grateful for. I think I’ll go draw the hor’derves! Happy Thanksgiving dear teacher, inspirer, encourager, Shalom!

My husband’s Sweet Tater is beside the turkey in the oven, I’ll have an Irish Potato because I never liked Sweet Taters and I’m too old to change…LOL I’m thankful for my family, and for people like you and Koojse, and Kate Johnson and so many others… but especially you Danny, your book Creative License, changed my life forever… it awakened the artist trapped inside me and for that I will always be grateful to you and for you.

Thankful for my new life in Coronado. Thankful that I started reading your books from the beginning, Danny. You are such an inspiration to me. I am thinking of going back to Paris this year, where I was lucky enough to paint on my own for 10 days one year. I have the book by Eric Maisel, A Writers Paris. I thought at one time that you said you illustrated it…is that right? I can’t find any credits for artists. And I took a class from Claudine Hellmuth once and they look like her collages in his book. Can you set me straight? I draw in journals everywhere I go, even here, where I live. Thank you immensely, Danny! Happy Thanksgiving.
