Like most 21st century bipeds, I love my phone. I remember back in the ’60’s when we had to carry around a computer the size of a Buick in order to get spam. Now I just reach in my pocket, and there’s the world — and I don’t even wear cargo pants!
Which brings me to irony. Earlier this year, I published a book which suggested that when you have downtime — while waiting for the light to change, the elevator to arrive, the doctor to read your x-rays, D.J.Trump to say something reasonable — instead of reflexively reaching for your phone to check Facebook, you might pull out your sketchbook and do a little drawing.
Now the publisher of my book has placed temptation in everyone’s way.
For the month of January, Art Before Breakfast* will be on sale for just $2.99. That’s the ebook version. The version you can download to your phone and carry around with you everywhere. That means that rather than doing a drawing, you can spend your downtime thumbing through my book and reading me exhorting you to do a drawing.
Sigh.
It’s not all bad though. The book is full of inspiring thoughts, encouraging advice and suggestions on what and how to draw, paint, and make the world a lovelier place. So with any luck you’ll download it and eventually get around to making some art. No matter how busy you are.
This offer ends on Jan 31. Then the world returns to normal.
*This link is to Amazon US but it’s on sale on in virtually every store that sells it worldwide.
Great deal – I’ve never gotten a book before for my laptop (which is the only “device” I own. Actually I do have a e-phone – used for emergencies on a trip – never charged if I did need it and don’t know how to do anything else on it except call someone. So laptop it is. Used to read but gave it up since I’d get too involved and have less than 4 hours sleep at night. So maybe now is the time to try an on-line book. Maybe. If I do, yours will be the first at this price. WOW

Well done Danny on achieving irony so early in the year :> Hope 2016 is great with plenty of time for more doodling, sketching, painting and well-observed moments.

Have it on my Kindle. Unfortunately, I ordered it a couple of weeks ago, so didn’t get the deal. But it was WORTH it! 🙂 And I just received The Creative License via snail mail.

Hi Danny
Art before Breakfast was a Christmas gift from my brother. ……Oh happiness +++ a world burst open for me ( the web and wifi. ….and a ” smart phone ” all fairly recently ). ……So I ‘ve been recocheting all over your blogs and videos and most savored. ..the podcasts Your voice translates to my brain. …..something about you and the info being real….attainable.
So of course I would love all of your books as audio books. ……..and your blog. …..craziness I ‘m sure ! ( so am carrying Art before Breakfast with me almost always. ……and a sketch book. )
Am trying to sign up for sketchskool but I am a “technically challenged ” person …….will ask for hands-on help from extremely patient librarian.
P.S. I’m sending my creative friends your great offer of the book online. ….thank you thank you !

Danny,Thank you so much. I am at the U. of M. Hospital, where my husband under went a few days ago and heart transplant. Now that his progres has improved tremendously and my mind isn’t as foggy I can draw. I had brought art supplies and sketchbooks. But just this morning I wished I had packed this book so it would give me some inspiration. I was so excited to see this offer on my email!
