Sketchbook Club: Illustrated Maps

This week I discussed some amazing books on illustrated map making:
You Are Here: Personal Geographies and Other Maps of the Imagination by Katharine Harmon
The Map as Art: Contemporary Artists Explore Cartography by Katharine Harmon
Plotted: A Literary Atlas by Andrew DeGraff

and don’t forget to join the great new Sketchbook Skool kourse, Let’s Make a Map!

  1. Interesting books. I love the storytelling qualities of map art and I have signed up for Nate’s class. Hooray! Cheers-

  2. Great illustrated talk… it would have been funny (pun intended) had there been a “Ha-Ha” (e.g. a recess between a garden and landscape) on the Hell map in book 2.

  3. Thanks for this great recommendations.
I will surely look for “Plotted” and reread all the beautiful books again.

But… didn’t you forget something? I remember that some of the artists in “An Illustrated Journey” include sometimes simple – sometimes elaborate map drawings to their travel sketchbooks.
