EDM #9: Draw a bit of “organized chaos” – your messy desk, your table stacked with books, etc.

I have spent the last six months or so working on retooling various parts of my apartment, most notably my study. I have spent a lot of time sorting art supplies into little boxes and baskets and things.  It’s very exciting to my anal self to have a neatly pigeonholed studio, with clean surfaces where I can leave half-finished projects an dt have to clean everything u each time I finish for the day. I still have to do some work on the lighting and continue to clear out some clutter, but it’s all very satisfying and a long-term goal and fantasy.

Anyway, this morning, I managed to knock out a drawing with the Safari, and then cracked open my neat wooden box of Doc Martin’s and got busy painting. The whole thing took about 20 minutes or so and I got to work a half hour early. It’s  great feeling to have made something, day after day, before breakfast.

  1. Great drawings! I’m curious … what type of sketchbook do you use? It looks square from the pictures. More specifically, what kind of paper? Thanks for sharing your drawings with us!

  3. Clean art area? What’s that? Does sound like a fantacy to me! 😉 Bravo to you. Do you think your art turns out better after it’s clean? I love the basket and all it’s detail here.I love your lines! Great color! Cool pic. good morning!

  4. So often I find that I am most productive once an area is cleared of clutter…but then I find it difficult to find inspiration for creating, once my art area is too sterile. It’s a ‘push-me-pull-me’ situation really. Well done on you though, for knocking out a creative project in just twenty minutes. Well done indeed! 😉

  5. Great idea to note the time as well; i wish more people (EDM) would do it too;

    i should start putting colors in mine too

    The big contrast in values is great! Did you change the nibs in your pen while doing this one?

  6. I love it! I draw/paint within fifteen minutes of getting out bed. The rest of the day can be what it is…. I’ve already attended to my passion! I, too, am clearing clutter and feel quite liberated from the drain of time looking for lost tools! Great post.
