EDM #16: Draw a favorite tool

This drawing is a little dull. Sometimes a square page is helpful for one’s composition. In this case not so much. I tried to tart things up with a profusion of crosshatching and stippling but the shape of the scooper and its reflective properties didn’t give me much to work with. And I regret adding that crescent of white paint around the rim.

Sorry to be so self-critical today. Maybe my blood sugar is just low.

  1. The great thing is: you keep up the creative practice! therefore, thanks for sharing, and have a great rest of the day.

  2. I love how you take an item like this and break it down as to what you are trying to accomplish and what did (or didn\’t) work. It makes it much more approachable for me to see your evaluation of the results. Time to have a scoop or two…

  3. Just ordered 3 of your books yesterday…can’t wait to get them! Oh and I had some great Fudge and Vanilla Ice Cream last night, and I think I feel skinnier this morning! 🙂

  4. I do believe the scoop needs to be larger to hold more ice cream in my humble opinion!
Otherwise, the hatching is fine. I can’t see the paint.

  5. Thanks for sharing your misgivings about choices you made. It encourages those of us who are less-experienced artists.

  6. I almost can’t wait to see what you’ve done for your morning sketch. I’m glad we’re three hours later. You really make my day start artfully!

  7. Hooray! You are human! Sometimes we, the not famous, think that folks like you don’t make mistakes. Don’t know how many times I’ve regretted adding white. You are so open and real. That’s why you are an inspiration!

  8. Don’t be so hard on yourself, funny though I am always critical of myself, and it seems I do my best work when I’m troubled with something in life
