I miss you!

My life has changed a lot in the last year. New home. New dog. Global pandemic. And lots of new ideas. I’d love to share them all with you but….

I am taking a (probably) permanent break from writing here on this blog to expressing myself on other platforms. I have been really busy at it and I don’t want you to miss any of my new ideas and writings if you are still interested.

  • Essays: I have been writing a weekly essay in a newsletter of sorts which I will gladly email to you if you tell me where to send it. Just go to dannysessays.com to sign up and you’ll get them (free) on Friday. And if you reply to me, I promise to read it and get back to you as soon as I can.
  • Podcast: I’ve relaunched the podcast art or all and am putting up (or ‘dropping’ in the new vernacular) a new episode every Monday. I am keeping them short and pithy. Subscribe on your favorite podcast app or listen here on its website
  • Small bites: I have kind of given up on big social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Instead I am communicating with interested people via text. If you’d like me to send you my latest drawings, inspiring thoughts, and my recommendations of things to read, see and do, send me a text at 919-298-8117 (US & Canada only). I’ll read every text you send me and reply when I can.
  • Video essays: I am making a few short video essays that you might enjoy and you can find them here on YouTube.
  • Draw With Me: I continue to do my weekly live show on YouTube, Thursdays at noon ET. If you can’t make it, recordings are always available. You’ll find them here.
  • Sketchbook Skool: I am coaching 1-on-1 as well as leading lots of online drawing groups, discussions and workshops.

  3. I’m “back” now….my life chanted too!! I got married (at 76 years old!) and have hardly picked up a brush or pen lately PLUS the Covid interruption! Count me in!

  7. Danny, I received a notice that because I was one of the first to sign up for Spark a few months ago, one of the benefits would be a drawing of me by you. I was sent a request for two current photos for reference and I sent them right away. It’s months later and I haven’t heard or received anything. If you are too busy, I understand and it won’t be a problem. But if it was just overlooked, then at least you know. Clearly, you are in the middle of many changes and I totally understand, whether you do it or not.

  8. Hello Danny Your posts have kept me in touch with the art adventure I started on when I did your brilliant course, Learn to draw without Talent in 2018 at with Sketchbook Skool. That experience took me into a world I never would have imagined. I was 69 at the time and now at 71 I’m going on an outback painting workshop with a highly respected artist. I’m so excited and am forever grateful to you for sharing your knowledge, being so encouraging and teaching me to draw!!!!!! What a gift. You certainly have had a huge impact on my life… you gave me permission to even consider drawing and painting as being accessible to me. I’m so glad to hear that your life is so full. I was concerned for you when I read your posts on this site that life was not as shiny as it had been. I will continue to dip into Draw with me and listen to your podcasts and be inspired by your journey. I’ve attached a little sketch I did for my partner as a gift. It is a trio of gouache paintings as a reminder of our recent road trips outback when I tried to sketch everyday. I had never heard of gouache until your lesson with your son’s blue sneaker!!! I went out and bought a set of 6 and now love Journal sketching with them. I am forever grateful for the gift you have given me and wish you only joy and wonderful things on your next phase of inspiring others Thank you With admiration and gratitude Chris Cooper

    Good to be in touch with you! Thanks for all the offers since I don’t do Facebook, Twitter, or almost any of the “social media” I appear to be left with just receiving your essays, which I look forward to.

  11. Thanks for this update, Danny. I definitely want to subscribe to your podcast. I totally understand your backing-off of social media. Me too. Makes my mind go snarky. Except for the SkoolYard, where it’s all support & inspiration. You remain an important part of my life. I so appreciate your creative “rolling with” the times. Take good care of yourself!
